Thanks for the comment. This calculator figures that you'll keep your retirement savings invested in a reasonable portfolio once you retire. Your retirement withdrawals will come from the interest and dividends the portfolio produces and also from the money you've invested as well (the principal, if that helps you visualize it better). I've made this calculator pretty simple to make it easy to use. If I had included some kind of printout that would show a simulation of how everything would (theoretically) happen, then you'd see the portfolio continue to generate gains or losses throughout retirement while you're taking withdrawals.
